Education Records
Although not all education records are public, some of them are and they can give you a brief overview of a person’s possible education history. You won’t find out their grades, their thesis, or anything like that, but you can confirm someone’s not lying to you about where he graduated from -- or what degree he graduated with.
There are plenty of reasons why you might want to dig a little deeper into someone’s education records. Maybe you want to keep your online dating encounters honest when they say they graduated from Yale or even double-check that your old friends aren’t lying about the degree they have at your 10-year high school reunion.
Whatever the reason, a public record can give you enough information to confirm what you need to know. Let’s go over some of the things you can find!
University Name
If the person you’re searching for attended a university, chances are it will show up in their public education records. This information can be pulled from school websites, alumni information on the web, and even matched with social media profile information.
In some cases, it may also list their major area of study or minor. At the very least, it will give you a possible university name.
Academy Name
Some people might attend an academy or trade school to further their careers in a certain industry. This information can also be pulled into someone’s public education records. For example, if someone went to school to be a mechanic or in the cosmetic industry, it will show that as well.
It will not only list the qualification type, but also the subject and the name of the school. It could look something like this: “Massage Therapy and Master Esthetics From Bellus Academy.”
What Else Can Education Records Show?
Since education records are a part of someone’s public records, there is tons of information that anyone can see. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in their education records, you can sift through some other information.
At the very least, you can find out if they’re lying about anything else. If they are, then it’s possible they’re lying about their education records too!
So, what else can they see?
- Work History - Much like you can view someone’s education records, you can view their work history as well. This can include the company name, the dates they worked there, and the position they held. If their work history and job titles don’t match their proclaimed education records, it’s possible they could be lying to you.
- Social Media Profiles - Public records will list out and give a link to the person’s possible social media accounts. This can include Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and even dating sites like Match. It’s likely that their education records are also on their social media profiles, so you can do some more digging to find consistency.
- Address History - You can use someone’s address history to further confirm their education records. Not only will it list the full address (city and state included), but it will detail the dates they were possibly living at that address. If they’re saying they went to the University of California, but were living in Ohio at that time, you can bet they’re likely lying.
- Social Security Number - No, public records won’t give you a person’s social security number. It can, however, tell you whether they were ever issued a social security number -- including the date and location it was issued. Sometimes the people we meet online aren’t who they say they are and can be in a country far away trying to scam you. If they weren’t issued a SSN, they aren’t a US citizen.
- Arrest History - Someone’s arrest history is also available in public records, whether they were arrested for theft, warrant from a traffic violation, or drug possession. This will also give you dates of the occurrence, which you can use to match up to their education records. They might say they went to Harvard from 2009-2012, but their arrest history might say different.
Since education records might not give that much detail on someone’s past education history, you might have to do a little more digging through their public records to confirm if they’re telling the truth or not. By using the information above, you can start to build a possible timeline for this person’s life.
Likewise, you could search for your own public education records. Many people do this to make sure their information is accurate and up-to-date. Most websites will allow users to make comments on the information provided, which can be a great opportunity for you to update the public records yourself.
